“EOSC and Research Infrastructures: opportunities and strategies”
Milan, Italy
16.03.2026 to 17.03.2026

The ESFRI-EOSC Task Force is organising a Policy Workshop on “EOSC and Research Infrastructures: Opportunities and Strategies”.

We are entering a crucial moment for strengthening the connection between Research Infrastructures (RIs) and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

As the EOSC Federation framework progressively takes shape, the engagement of RIs becomes a key driver for ensuring that EOSC evolves into a sustainable, community-driven ecosystem, providing high-quality data, services, and expertise.

In this context, the ESFRI–EOSC Task Force is intensifying its efforts to support and optimise the participation of RIs in EOSC. Building on ongoing dialogues, evidence gathering and structured analysis, the Task Force aims to identify concrete opportunities, strategic benefits, and potential challenges for RIs wishing to structure their relationship with the EOSC Federation.

This Policy Workshop will provide a dedicated space to discuss expectations, priorities, and actions to enhance RI engagement. It will bring together experts and stakeholders from ESFRI RIs, the EOSC Tripartite, and the broader research community to collectively reflect on how to accelerate EOSC uptake and strengthen the role of RIs in the EOSC.

Attendees will include ESFRI RIs, members of the ESFRI-EOSC Task Force, the EOSC Steering Board, representatives from the EOSC Federation Candidate Nodes, representatives from the European Commission (DG-RTD, DG-CNECT), the EOSC Association Board, and experts.

This is an invitation-only workshop. Please note that participation requires in-person attendance.

The workshop is being organized by the ESFRI-EOSC Task Force, with support from the StR-ESFRI3 project.

This is a draft agenda covering Day 1 from 11:30 through Day 2 until 13:30.

The final agenda will be confirmed and circulated in the coming days.

Fondazione Stelline, Corso Magenta 59 (Sala Pirelli)

Located in the heart of Milan’s financial and cultural district, Fondazione Stelline Milano is easily accessible via major public transport links and sits directly opposite Leonardo’s Last Supper.

Fondazione Stelline is a historic Milanese institution established in 1986 by the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan to preserve and promote the cultural and architectural heritage of the Palazzo delle Stelline and support cultural, social and economic development in the region.

The palace itself sits on a site with centuries-old roots: it was originally part of the Benedictine convent of Santa Maria della Stella and later became a girls’ orphanage known as “Stelline,” reflecting its long-standing role in Milan’s social history.
