The ESFRI Strategic Report on RIs in Europe, known as the ESFRI Roadmap, has been, for the past 18 years, the prestigious result of a laborious collaborative process aspiring to guarantee the creation of and access to large international Research Infrastructures with the vision to expand European scientific excellence.

ESFRI organises an Information Day on 25 September 2019 in Brussels, with the aim to inaugurate the process of updating its Roadmap (to be completed in 2021). Top Roadmap stakeholder will provide a thorough presentation of the requirements, the procedure and the methodology of selection of proposals for new RI Projects to enter the Roadmap. The Roadmap Landscape Analysis of Research Infrastructures will also be presented along with information on its ongoing update process. There will also be further discussions on the process of monitoring for ESFRI RIs already on the Roadmap.

The Info Day will last the whole morning of the 25th of September and will be hosted by the European Commission in Brussels. It is co-organised and supported by the StR-ESFRI2 Project - Support to Reinforce ESFRI, and the European Commission - DG Research and Innovation.

Launching the call for proposals for the ESFRI Roadmap 2021, Jan Hrušák, Chair of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures, called for a new ambition for European science to go beyond the existing frontiers of knowledge and find sustainable solutions to growing global challenges. Speaking at the Roadmap 2021 Info Day on 25 September 2019 in Brussels, organized as part of the European Research and Innovation Days, he underlined that “World-class Research Infrastructures, such as those identified in the ESFRI Roadmap, are essential to help us to reach these goals.’

The Info Day marked the official invitation to the research community to propose new Research Infrastructures that will be included on the ESFRI Roadmap to be published in 2021. The deadline to submit proposals is May 5th, 2020.
