The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) held its 89th meeting on September 16th and 17th, 2024 in Szeged (Hungary), home of the ESFRI Landmark, ELI-ALPS institute.

ESFRI Roadmap 2026

Gelsomina Pappalardo, ESFRI Vice Chair and Chair of the drafting group working on the update of the Roadmap 2026, presented to the delegates two key documents for approval to officially kick-off the ESFRI Roadmap 2026: the ESFRI Roadmap 2026 public guide and the ESFRI Roadmap 2026 submission questionnaire. These documents contain detailed instructions for the application of new proposals of research infrastructures that want to be part of the ESFRI Roadmap 2026. Gelsomina Pappalardo also outlined the schedule and plans for the Infoday that took place in Brussels, on October 8th.

Sustainability of RIs

Elena Hoffert, ESFRI Vice Chair, presented an interactive session to collect the opinion from the delegations as to what are the most important issues regarding sustainability of RIs in the future. To spur the conversation Elena Hoffert divided the delegates in four break-out groups to discuss aspects like how can ESFRI contribute to engaging funders in long term funding, the diversity of RIs and the differences in what they define as sustainability or the impact of sustainability in national decision-making processes. After internal discussion among the break-out groups the rapporteurs for each group presented their discussion to the rest of the groups.

3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup

ESFRI Secretariat discussed the format and content of the 3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup, planned for June 2025 in Poland.

ESFRI-EOSC Task Force

The general objective of the ESFRI-EOSC Task Force is to ensure a structured interface between the ESFRI Forum and the EOSC Steering Board beyond the current ad-hoc cooperation. Key drivers for the Task Force are to align collective interests and maximize the impact of efforts towards enabling an integrated ecosystem of Research Infrastructures that would feed into a dynamic EOSC federation. Jan Hrušák, ESFRI´s Executive Board Member, presented past events of the task force as well as future work planned exploring opportunities to interconnect RI on data space.
