ESFRI Publishes Position Paper on Protecting Radio Astronomy in the Upper 6 GHz Band

ESFRI has published a new position paper highlighting the scientific importance of safeguarding Radio Astronomy within the future regulatory framework for sharing the 6425–7125 MHz frequency band.

The paper calls on the Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC) to ensure that future spectrum regulation takes into account the needs of European Radio Astronomy Research Infrastructures, protecting their ability to deliver world-class science, technological innovation and long-term societal benefits.

Recognising the strategic importance of the Upper 6 GHz band for current and future facilities such as the European VLBI Network (EVN), the SKA Observatory and ALMA, the paper provides recommendations for a balanced regulatory approach that supports both scientific research and technological development.
