Four ESFRI Research Infrastructures at the 48th FEBS Congress in Milan
28.06.2024

New opportunities for researchers - Imaging, structural biology, human disease modeling and compound screening research infrastructures

The 48th Congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), which will take place from June 29 to July 3, 2024, at the Allianz MiCo in Milan, will count with the participation of four major ESFRI Research Infrastructures. With over 500 delegates, this conference is one of the most important life sciences events this year and a great opportunity for these RIs to interact with a very varied audience, both researchers and professionals from the industry.

A dedicated session "Novel opportunities for researchers – Research infrastructures in imaging, structural biology, human disease modelling and compound screening" led by Bahne Stechmann. This session wants to describe how these research infrastructures are empowering scientists with access to unique technologies, resources, and expertise that are not available in their home institutions.

Participating ESFRI RIs:

  • EU-OPENSCREEN (www.eu-openscreen.eu): The research infrastructure in chemical biology and early drug discovery by Bahne Stechmann.
  • Instruct-ERIC (www.instruct-eric.org): Access to latest Structural Biology technologies and training in Europe by John Dolan.
  • Euro-BioImaging ERIC (www.eurobioimaging.eu): Open access to biological & biomedical imaging technologies and image data services by Daniela Aviles.
  • INFRAFRONTIER (www.infrafrontier.eu): Resources and services for human disease modelling by Michael Raess.

The session will take place on July 1st, from 08:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the Yellow Room 1.

Additional presentations for the Congress will include four Nobel Laureates: Bruce Beutler, Robert Huber, Venki Ramakrishnan, and John Walker, among dozens of other leading scientists from around the world. These leading speakers will discuss a wide array of topics related to the theme of Congress: "Mining Biochemistry for Human Health and Well-Being" ranging from the molecular basis of life to infectious diseases, oncology, degenerative diseases, drug design, emerging diseases, nutrition, biotechnological innovations, and biocompatible materials.

This participation highlights the high value of the contribution of ESFRI RIs and the importance of the FEBS Congress as a critical venue for forging new collaborations and inspiring groundbreaking research.
