Michael Ryan

ESFRI representative, Head of International Division at Research Ireland

Dr. Michael Ryan is Head of the International Division at Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland, SFI) where he leads the agency’s international strategy and its EU & global operational activities. He was founding chair for the creation of the organisation’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy. Michael serves on several international Expert Groups and Review Committees and is a Board member to the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Prior to SFI, Michael worked in the private sector for ten years, which included partnering with global corporations in the US and Asia. His experience spans across a variety of activities that include global partnership development, implementing new translational research facilities, scaling new company creation, raising venture capital funds, and government policy development. Michael holds a PhD in Physical and Analytical Chemistry from University College Dublin.
