Tomáš Michalek serves as the Head of Research Infrastructures Unit at the Research and Development Section of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic. His work primarily focuses on strategic planning and funding of national research infrastructures, with an emphasis on their involvement in projects of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). He has long been active in the field of research and innovation management. In the past, he worked at the Technology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences (2012–2015), the Slovak Academy of Sciences (2015–2022), and at the Research and Innovation Authority of the Government Office of the Slovak Republic (2022–2024). He is a graduate of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava, where he earned a PhD in European Studies and Policies, as well as of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague, where he obtained Mgr. and PhDr. degrees in International Relations.
