Björn Halleröd is a professor of sociology and previously working at Umeå University but now at the University of Gothenburg . His research has primarily concerned poverty, living and working issues. He is currently researching mainly about the living conditions of the elderly, including how social conditions and genetic conditions interact in the development of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and children's living conditions in developing countries.
He has also been a member of the Swedish Research Council's Scientific Council (Humanities and Social Sciences) between 2001 and 2006. Since 2006, he has been involved in issues related to research infrastructure. First as a member and chair of the review panels and between 2012 a member and vice-chairman of the Council for Research Infrastructure (RFI), also this at the Swedish Research Council. Since August 2015, Halleröd is the main secretary for research infrastructure at the Swedish Research Council.
